Vaccine procurement strengthening
Tools and resources for the strengthening of government’s vaccine procurement capacity and health systems
UNICEF has a pivotal role as a buyer in vaccine markets and supports countries to strengthen their procurement capacity to access an uninterrupted supply of quality-assured vaccines at affordable prices.
To this end, UNICEF focuses on four key areas to strengthen government’s vaccine procurement capacity while strengthening health systems:
- Procurement strengthening resource kit: This kit provides governments resources on how to develop a strategic procurement approach via an e-course, as well as a toolbox to assess and strengthen their vaccine procurement processes.
- Peer-to-peer learning forums: UNICEF brings together procurement practitioners to foster knowledge exchange and best practice sharing to strengthen skills and understanding on diverse vaccine procurement topics.
- The Vaccine Procurement Practitioners Network (VPPN) is an online community of practice (CoP), as well as a resource portal targeted at professionals and technical experts supporting national vaccine procurement.
- South-South Triangular Cooperation: UNICEF directly connects low- and lower-middle-income countries with peer countries, as well as upper-middle to high-income countries, multilateral organizations and academia with proven expertise to enable in-depth sharing of best practices and lessons learned to address key procurement challenges.
