Sustainability
Environmental, social and economic sustainability in UNICEF’s supply operations for children and their future.
As the largest procurement entity in the United Nations, UNICEF procures over US$5 billion worth of supplies and services for children in more than 160 countries yearly. These critical supplies and services save lives and bring hope to the world’s most vulnerable children.
At the same time, production and transport of supplies at such a large scale have environmental, social and economic consequences. This is why efforts to reduce these consequences are embedded as core considerations into UNICEF’s supply and logistic operations.
UNICEF collaborates with partners and suppliers to ensure that the products and services it procures for children minimize negative environmental impact, support local economic development, and benefit communities.
UNICEF is committed to achieving the best value for money for the products and services it delivers for children, while at the same time safeguarding children’s futures.
