UNICEF, in collaboration with NEST360 and the Oxygen CoLab, is driving the development, introduction and scaling of a fit-for-purpose Resilient Oxygen Concentrator for low-resource settings. This innovative product will be more resilient, energy efficient and meet the needs of clinicians and patients, including children.
Currently, the best concentrators on the market are being distributed by UNICEF and saving thousands of lives. However, these devices were first developed as at-home medical solutions for places where the climate is controlled (e.g. with air conditioning) and electricity is reliable. Some environments where UNICEF works can be unstable, with faulty power systems and dusty, humid and hot climates. This means that although the equipment works well in many cases, operational challenges still exist that must be addressed.
A more robust concentrator will help ensure oxygen is available to those who need it most, no matter where they live.
