Why team up with UNICEF?

Organizations big and small are doing important work for children across the globe – we know, because we join forces with many of them. Here’s why businesses and philanthropists tell us they choose UNICEF as their partner of choice.

These kits contain essential items for personal and family hygiene, such as bathing soap, laundry soap, toothbrushes, buckets and jerry cans, and towels. Beginning on 10 May 2024, flash floods ravaged northeastern Afghanistan, reportedly killing at least 150 people, including more than 50 children. Baghlan Province was the worst affected, with 220 people injured in the first flash flood. The seasonal flash flooding and heavy rains have destroyed shelters, latrines, farmland, washed away livestock, temporarily closed schools, and damaged health centres. In Baghlan province alone, over 3,000 homes were destroyed across eight districts.

Following a new outbreak of cholera declared in Sake in November 2023, UNIRR (UNICEF Rapid Response) support was provided to the Afya Sake CTC, where four deaths had been reported during the night of 14 to 15 December 2023. UNIRR, a UNICEF-North Kivu Red Cross joint intervention, lasted for a fortnight, from 15 to 29 December 2023, and reduced the case fatality rate at the CTC from 5% (4 deaths out of 84 cases recorded) to 0.8% (1 death out of 126 patients admitted).

Scale: UNICEF operates in more places than nearly any other organization. On the ground and with a footprint in almost every country, we deliver results through programmes and advocacy for children at scale, within and across borders.

Access: UNICEF protects the rights of children in times of peace or crisis by mandate of the United Nations. We influence governments others can’t reach, with access to children living in the world's toughest places, through the world’s toughest crises.

Expertise: UNICEF brings almost 80 years of field-tested know-how, with the world’s leading experts in child health, education and protection among our ranks. Our research, practice and convening power is trusted by world leaders to inform national policies and shape global agendas.

Rapid response: A leader in emergency response, UNICEF runs the largest humanitarian warehouse on the planet. We ship life-saving supplies to children within 72 hours, with teams ready to deploy anywhere. And we address urgent needs for children – before, during and after emergencies.

Equity: Impartial and non-political, we’re never neutral when it comes to serving every child. UNICEF is guided by universal humanitarian principles, with procedures to ensure even the most marginalized aren’t left behind.

Every business decision impacts children, and UNICEF helps ensure those decisions prioritize children’s rights.

As the only organization specifically named in the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) to provide expert assistance with advice, we work with regulators, legislators, investors and businesses globally, regionally and nationally to integrate child rights into everyday business practices.

We also guide companies to assess and mitigate their business impact on children through adopting Child Rights and Business Principles, covering key areas like labor, health, education and environmental impact.

Core Resources for Results (RR) is funding without restrictions. And it is at the heart of our commitment to equity and ensuring we reach every child, everywhere – wherever and whenever the need is greatest. RR powers our work at every level, from local programmes to global initiatives. When emergencies or disasters strike, flexible funding enables us to respond swiftly, without waiting for earmarked funds to arrive.

Partners choose to invest in RR because it offers:

  • Flexibility to address and adapt to evolving challenges and achieve lasting impact.

  • Predictability to plan and deliver long-term programmes for children.

  • Efficiency to reduce transaction costs and maximize the resources that go directly to children.

As UNICEF is funded entirely through voluntary contributions, RR is also sustained by our core partners and allows UNICEF to stay and deliver no matter what. Check out our latest report on Core Resources for Results.

UNICEF takes transparency seriously. And we are committed to the highest levels of accountability for results.

Since 2012, we have been a member of the International Aid Transparency Initiative – the only independent assessment of the transparency of the world’s top aid organizations, where we have consecutively ranked as ‘very good’ at the highest level. In 2022, we ranked as the top-performing UN agency.

Our Transparency Portal, provides data on what UNICEF does, where we work, the funds we receive and how those funds are spent to achieve results. See where our resources come from, and where they go.

UNICEF is one of the first international organizations to ever engage with the music industry and the pioneer of benefit concerts as we know them. For decades, we’ve collaborated with musicians to create impact for children.

From fundraising concerts, at a local and global scale, to donating the rights to songs, artists around the world have shown that their art and the power of music can go beyond entertainment.

We partner across industries to turn ambition into action for every child.

Your creativity and wide-reaching voice can help us connect with millions in ways that few others can.

UNICEF has decades of experience in climate-smart investments. Your organization can partner with UNICEF to align its climate strategy with actionable, scalable solutions.

Working together we can tackle critical environmental challenges and invest in building resilient communities to future-proof our world, especially for children who are disproportionately affected by climate change. Ready to help close the climate finance gap?
