A UNICEF corporate partner since 2021
DP World supports UNICEF’s global operation and distribution of COVID-19 vaccination and related medical supplies and offers worldwide access to logistical services free of charge.
The COVID-19 pandemic is taking an unprecedented toll on the health and well-being of children and their families around the world. In addition, the pandemic threatens to roll back years of progress in reducing child poverty, leaving children deprived of essential services and families struggling financially. Through the COVAX Facility co-led by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, WHO, and CEPI – UNICEF is leading the efforts to procure and supply COVID-19 vaccines and related products on behalf of the COVAX facility to 190 countries. The overall ambition is to procure and supply two billion vaccines to all countries and economies participating in the COVAX Facility by the end of 2021.
In January 2021, UNICEF partnered with DP World – a leader in global end-to-end supply chain logistics headquartered in the United Arab Emirates – to support the global distribution of COVID-19 vaccines and critical immunization supplies in low- and lower-middle-income countries, ensuring equitable, affordable and sustainable access to COVID-19 vaccines for all.
This partnership is the largest to date in supporting UNICEF's lead role in procuring and supplying two billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines and auxiliary vaccination supplies on behalf of the COVAX Facility by using DP World's warehouse facilities in Dubai.
"At DP World, we believe a coordinated and collaborative vaccine effort is vital if the world is to emerge stronger from the COVID-19 pandemic. Through our partnership with UNICEF, we are joining forces and using our expertise to create solutions that will enable equitable vaccine distribution globally, with a particular focus on supporting countries in the developing world. I believe that until everyone has been vaccinated, the pandemic will not leave us." – Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World
UNICEF is working with different partners and stakeholders and leveraging its strength and decades of experience in procurement and market-shaping for health products to help ensure equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines, diagnostics and therapeutics for all.
