Brasília, April 03, 2025 – With the aim of sharing experiences and reflections on essential issues such as cyberbullying, mental health, menstrual dignity, and education, UNICEF Ambassadors Millie Bobby Brown and Maisa met in São Paulo for a special interview conducted by the Brazilian actress and presenter. During the meeting, both highlighted the importance of UNICEF's work in promoting the rights of children and adolescents, as well as the crucial role of youth engagement in social causes.

During the interview, Millie shared her experiences and explained her motivation for advocating for children and adolescents worldwide. “My parents were always very transparent with me about the world I lived in and how privileged I was to have access to certain resources. When I realized that other children and teenagers lived in a world that didn’t offer these opportunities, I understood that I had a platform to speak up about these crucial issues, and UNICEF gave me that support,” Millie said. She was appointed as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 2018 at just 14 years old, becoming the youngest person ever to hold the title.

Maisa Silva, in turn, emphasized the relevance of UNICEF's initiatives in Brazil, highlighting the fundamental role of young people in building a fairer future. “Although it's sad to admit, not everyone has access to education in Brazil. Seeing UNICEF focus on this, especially targeting young people, taking care of them, and implementing programs—including addressing issues such as menstrual dignity for girls who don’t have access—made me think deeply. It made me even more committed and made me ask myself: How can I help? What can I do to speak up about this and use my platform to create an impact?” said Maisa, who has supported UNICEF’s causes since 2018 and became a UNICEF Brazil Ambassador in 2023.

Maisa also discussed with Millie the challenges Brazil faces in various areas and spoke about UNICEF’s initiatives in the Northeast region of Brazil focused on menstrual dignity – a cause that Millie has championed for many years including at UN events.

“These initiatives empower girls to talk about the issue and seek solutions. It’s rewarding to see that we’re not just discussing a problem but actually taking steps to solve it,” Maisa concluded.

The Ambassadors highlighted how their influence represents a unique opportunity to expand the reach of UNICEF's messages, especially to an audience primarily composed of girls and teenagers. They stressed the power of inspiring and motivating this audience to take action in their communities, ensuring that their voices are heard and positively impact society.

Millie Bobby Brown’s mission in Brazil included a visit to EMEF Profa. Olinda Menezes Serra Vidal in Cidade Tiradentes, São Paulo, where she met with a group of teenage girls to discuss the challenges they face, spoke with school staff, and learned about Busca Ativa Escolar, a UNICEF initiative that helps municipalities identify children who are out of school and support their return to education.
