Ensuring inclusive education during the pandemic and beyond (Dominican Republic)
About
COVID-19 closed all schools across the Dominican Republic for the full 2020/2021 academic year. Concerned that distance learning would compound the pre-existing education inequities for children with disabilities, the Government partnered with UNICEF to forge ways to be as inclusive as possible. Over 5,100 children with disabilities (2,662 girls) were able to continue their education during the period of school closures as a result of UNICEF-supported accessible learning kits and associated training for teachers and education officials.
