Highlights

With fewer than five years remaining to achieve SDG 4, the global learning crisis has become one of the defining challenges of our time. Across the world, education systems are facing a profound challenge in ensuring that every child achieves meaningful learning outcomes, with millions still not gaining the knowledge, skills and opportunities they need to thrive. At the same time, rapid technological, social and environmental change is raising a more fundamental question: can education systems designed for an earlier era prepare children for the future they will inherit? UNICEF's experience shows that improving education outcomes will require not only stronger systems, but also a reimagining of how, where and when children learn.

Shaping the Future of Learning, UNICEF's Education Strategy 2026, responds to this urgent challenge. The strategy sets out UNICEF's vision for accelerating learning, equity and skills development for every child and adolescent, while supporting countries to transform education systems at scale. Building on the foundation of the Education Strategy 2019-2030, it clarifies the priorities, operating model and partnerships required to drive impact and serves as a roadmap for implementing UNICEF's Strategic Plan 2026-2029.
