Partnership overview

The Netherlands has long been an ardent supporter of UNICEF’s work for the world’s most disadvantaged children.

A committed humanitarian advocate, the Netherlands has provided crucial support to global crises, including those in the State of Palestine and Libya.

Thanks to the generous support of the Dutch Government in 2025, UNICEF has accelerated water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programmes in the Gaza Strip and in Bangladesh, engaging with civil society and local government bodies to promote hygiene education and support local water supply systems worldwide.

In 2026, the Dutch Government signed its new four-year core contribution agreement with UNICEF, providing predictable, high-quality funding and enabling quick and reliable action for children in need. Furthermore, the Netherlands remains one of the largest contributors to UNICEF’s Global Humanitarian Thematic Funding.

The Netherlands has also invested restricted funding for targeted programmes and flagship initiatives in over 25 countries since 2022, including through PROSPECTS, No Time to Waste, and Accelerating Sanitation and Water for All. These investments are not just about development – they play a crucial role in ensuring the peace and stability necessary for trade and industry to thrive and achieve economic growth and prosperity.
