Year 2 Results of the Today and Tomorrow Initiative
About
UNICEF launched the Today and Tomorrow Initiative (TTI) in early 2023 to help protect children from growing climate and disaster risks. TTI stands out for its unique and innovative financing approach to support comprehensive climate and disaster risk management. It mobilizes funds to drive Today’s actions that reduce risk and build long-term resilience (climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, early warning, anticipatory action), while also securing pre-arranged and trigger-based resources for rapid disaster response Tomorrow. These efforts are aligned with government initiatives to manage development risks linked to natural hazards, with a special focus on children’s needs.
Crucially, TTI also builds capacity to mobilize private sector resources, ensuring predictable and reliable funding for immediate action and long-term solutions that create a safer present and a more secure future for children.
This 2024 report details key learnings from the second year of TTI´s implementation and outlines progress in scaling up TTI into UNICEF’s Climate and Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance (CDRFI) approach.
