Mental health and family-friendly policies
An evidence brief
About
Over one in seven adolescents live with mental health conditions, and one in four children have a parent with a mental disorder. Caregiver mental health has a profound impact on child development and well-being. Research shows that unaddressed mental health issues in caregivers can affect children’s emotional and physical growth. Recognizing how workplace practices and family-friendly policies can support caregiver mental health is essential to improving outcomes for both caregivers and their children. This evidence brief explores workplace practices and family-friendly policies that support caregiver mental health and, by extension, child and youth mental health. It highlights the importance of adopting these policies as a shared responsibility among businesses, policymakers and society, with a focus on the role of the private sector.
