About

Titled "Towards 2030: Driving Urgent Action to End Child Marriage", the 2024 Annual Results Report of the UNFPA–UNICEF Global Programme to End Child Marriage (the Global Programme) underscores the urgency of accelerating efforts to eliminate child marriage by 2030, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5.3. It emphasizes a gender-transformative, multisectoral approach that empowers adolescent girls, strengthens systems, and fosters enabling environments through evidence-based advocacy, partnerships, and community engagement.

In addition to the report, we are delighted to present 12 individual country profiles, offering in-depth insights into our initiatives and progress in specific regions: Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Mozambique, Nepal, Niger, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Yemen, and Zambia. Some key achievements include:

  • 7.4 million adolescent girls (aged 10–19) empowered through life skills and comprehensive sexuality education (CSE)
  • 8.4 million girls supported to enrol in, return to, or remain in school
  • 29.5 million individuals engaged in group education/dialogue on child marriage, girls’ rights, and gender equality
  • 280 million people reached via mass media messaging
  • 4.7 million boys and men engaged in promoting positive masculinities and challenging harmful gender norms
  • 2.5 million children accessed prevention and protection services
  • 3.5 million girls benefited from social protection, poverty reduction, and economic empowerment programmes
  • 81 policies or legal instruments addressing child marriage were drafted, proposed, or adopted
  • 133 women-led and 1,361 youth-led organizations engaged in programme delivery and advocacy

Looking forward, the Global Programme will scale proven interventions, expand financing, strengthen alliances, and drive gender-transformative, evidence-based action to end child marriage.
