Highlights

This report supplements the UNICEF 2021 Annual Report. It highlights and recognizes the unprecedented support of our public and private sector partners through a record-breaking $8.1 billion of funds for children, which enabled life-changing and life-saving impact for children on a massive scale. The outstanding 2021 results outlined below, and more extensively detailed in the UNICEF Annual Report 2021 are a testament to the extraordinary dedication and commitment of public and private partners to our work for every child.

  • In its role as procurement coordinator for the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) Facility, UNICEF led the procurement and delivery of COVID-19 vaccines. In 2021, COVAX delivered 958 million doses (including donated doses) to 144 countries.
  • UNICEF provided services to prevent stunting and other forms of malnutrition, reaching nearly 336 million children.
  • UNICEF helped 48.6 million out-of-school children to access education.
  • Through joint programming with UNFPA, UNICEF provided prevention and care interventions to 7.6 million adolescent girls at risk of child marriage.
  • UNICEF expanded access to safe water and basic sanitation for 69.9 million people.
  • UNICEF helped alleviate poverty with cash transfers that reached almost 133 million children.
