Driving UN efficiency
Helping UNICEF and the United Nations work better.
Across the United Nations, agencies are looking for ways to simplify processes, reduce duplication and improve collaboration. Shared services play an important role in these efforts.
For more than a decade, the GSSC has helped UNICEF improve the way it works through shared services and leaner business operations. Today, that experience also supports broader efforts to improve efficiency across the United Nations, including the UN80 agenda and other inter-agency initiatives.
"UNICEF is already one of the most cost-effective organizations in the global development and humanitarian system. But in the face of the steepest drop in projected external funding in memory, we are not standing still. [...] We are driving efficiencies across the system: scaling up our Global Shared Services Centre.”
Supporting UN80
UN80 represents the latest phase of the UN reform, bringing together efforts to modernize operations, strengthen collaboration and improve system-wide efficiency. Central to this vision is a greater use of shared services, common solutions and coordinated support structures.
UNICEF contributes to these efforts through the GSSC and its participation in a range of inter-agency initiatives focused on shared services, common approaches and operational efficiency.
How the GSSC Contributes
Shared Services
Providing services from a central location helps standardize and improve quality of services, while reducing duplication, and optimizing resources.
Common Back Offices
Supporting efforts to bring operational services together at country level and make them easier to access.
Inter-agency Collaboration
Working with UN partners to identify opportunities for cooperation and shared solutions.
