Evidence synthesis and learning
Turning evaluation evidence into knowledge for action
Evaluation at UNICEF goes beyond individual evaluations to bring together evidence across programmes, countries, regions, and themes. Through evidence synthesis and learning, UNICEF identifies patterns, evidence gaps, lessons, and emerging insights that can inform strategic decisions, strengthen programmes, and contribute to the wider global evidence base for children.
This work includes the Global Evaluation Evidence and Gap Map, which provides a systematic overview of available evaluation evidence and identifies areas where further knowledge is needed; the Review of Evidence for Learning and Effectiveness to Transform (REFLECT), which synthesizes evaluation evidence to identify lessons and insights for organizational learning and decision-making; and UNICEF's engagement in the Global SDG Synthesis Coalition, working with United Nations and other partners to synthesize evidence and strengthen learning on progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
Together, these initiatives help make evaluation evidence more accessible, connected, and useful—supporting learning within UNICEF and contributing to stronger evidence for decision-making globally.
