Evaluation capacity development
UNICEF expertise for evaluation evidence on what works for children.

UNICEF operates in complex and ever-changing settings. We rely on partners at the global, regional and country levels to reach children with the support they need to survive and thrive. Together, UNICEF and partners must learn from experience to continuously improve our programmes for children. This learning requires strong capacity on the ground, especially at the country level, not just for UNICEF staff but also among government partners and national evaluation societies.
Building national capacity for the evaluation of development programmes and policies is enshrined in our evaluation policy – and within the United Nations (UN) system.
To strengthen organizational learning and accountability, UNICEF supports skills development programmes for partners and provides policymakers and programme managers with credible, reliable information to support child-focused development.
We also partner with the UN System Staff College to strengthen the capacity of United Nations and government staff.
