The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) faces one of the world's most severe food crises. In conflict-affected areas, relentless fighting combined with limited access to food and land has taken a devastating toll on vulnerable families.
Since 2020, UNICEF, in collaboration with WFP and FAO, has implemented a joint program to support families in North and South Kivu provinces. Supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the German Development Bank (KfW), this program aims to build sustainable resilience by addressing the needs of families and communities.
Through close collaboration with local authorities and partners, UNICEF, WFP, and FAO have developed holistic solutions to strengthen the resilience of approximately 60,000 families between 2020 and 2024.
Beyond the numbers, lives are being transformed: families regain hope for the future, children envision a brighter tomorrow, and communities work hand in hand toward a more stable future.
