About

The growing impacts of extreme weather and environmental degradation are placing children’s health, safety, education and very survival at risk. As these challenges intensify, building climate-resilient social services and shock-responsive systems is no longer optional – it is essential. Only by strengthening these systems can we protect children from disasters and the increasing risks posed by a changing climate and environment.

This collection of stories highlights UNICEF’s vision and the impactful work we are undertaking with our partners, such as:

  • solarizing healthcare centres and water supply systems;
  • ensuring schools are climate- and disaster-resilient;
  • adapting social protection to the impacts of natural hazards;
  • improving early warning systems;
  • reducing environmental risk; and
  • equipping students with skills for the green transition.

These initiatives reflect the strong commitment of UNICEF, communities, governments, civil society, the private sector and other partners to reducing the impacts of disasters, climate and environmental risks on children, and to ensuring a more liveable planet for all.

A collection of stories can be found in our Susainability and Climate Action Plan Impact Stories report. Additional 2025-2026 stories are posted throughout the year. These stories illustrate how we are advancing UNICEF’s Sustainability and Climate Action Plan 2023–2030.
