Highlights

Digital health products only work for adolescent girls when girls themselves help shape them. This research brief, developed with the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology (BIPS), draws on Oky's localisation experiences in Burundi, Tanzania, Kenya, the Philippines, Ukraine and Nepal to examine how girl-centred, participatory design translates into digital health products that reflect girls' social and digital realities. The brief presents six key insights, from the role of communities in co-creation, to navigating cultural sensitivities, to giving marginalised adolescents a voice in accessibility and inclusion. It offers practical guidance for practitioners, partners and governments seeking to localise digital health solutions with, not just for, the young people they aim to reach.
