Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI)
Accelerating inclusive and safe digital public infrastructure for every child
UNICEF partners with governments to design, implement, and govern interoperable, secure, and child‑centred DPI building blocks and DPI‑enabled systems that make children visible, expand equitable access to essential services, and strengthen service delivery at scale. For example, we support interoperable system architectures that link birth registration with health and social protection systems; enable secure, timely, and accurate delivery of child grants and transfers through trusted digital payment and identity systems; and improve planning and budgeting through safe and reliable data exchange across critical government platforms. In parallel, we advocate for and embed child‑rights‑based safeguards throughout the DPI lifecycle, including privacy‑by‑design, cybersecurity and resilience measures, responsible data governance, inclusive and accessible technology design, and effective accountability and redress mechanisms—so digital systems protect children, build trust, and prevent exclusion.
