The cholera vaccination campaign, organized by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with UNICEF, covered several municipalities in the provinces of Luanda and Icolo and Bengo, as part of the emergency response to cholera cases registered in these provinces.

The vaccination campaign aimed to immunize about one million people in the provinces of Luanda and Icolo and Bengo. In the Municipality of Kilamba Kiaxi, Luanda province, vaccination posts were installed in strategic locations, such as health centers, churches and markets, and actions were triggered by mobile teams that traveled through the communities to ensure that no one was left without access to the vaccine.

We have the ten health units where we allocate the vaccines, and we have some mobile teams at the municipal level. We also defined vaccination strategies from house to house or in places with greater crowds.

Here in our municipality, we have a house-to-house vaccination strategy, said Alice Chissamba, head of the Public Health section of the Municipality of Kilamba Kiaxi.

Each person over one year of age received a single dose, with the aim of providing rapid immunity and reducing the risk of infection, work carried out by vaccinators like Tânia de Carvalho.

"We were very well received by the population of Kilamba Kiaxi," said the vaccinator, whose work contributed to protecting more than 1002 thousand people.

The vaccination campaign in Kilamba Kiaxi was an essential preventive measure to prevent the spread of cholera. Combining vaccination with proper hygiene and sanitation practices is critical to protecting the community and preventing future outbreaks.

Alice Chissamba advised the population to be very careful with the spread of the cholera outbreak and called for compliance with all the recommendations left by the authorities.

Vaccination at Kilamba Kiaxi is an example of an effective approach to combating cholera, which integrates prevention measures, community education and access to immunization. This model can serve as a reference for other risk areas, reinforcing the importance of collaboration between health authorities and communities in the fight against infectious diseases.

In addition to vaccination, awareness-raising actions were implemented to promote the adoption of hygiene and basic sanitation practices in the communities.
