Highlights

This assessment focuses on the situation of unaccompanied and separated children from Myanmar (UASC-M) in Thailand's Tak, Chiang Mai, and Chiang Rai provinces. The research aimed to quantify the UASC-M population, understand the factors contributing to family separation, assess protection risks, and evaluate the education system's capacity to integrate these children.

Key findings indicate an increase in UASC-M since 2019, driven by factors such as limited opportunities, poverty, safety concerns, and the ongoing conflict in Myanmar. The study highlights variations in access to education, legal documentation, and child protection services across the different provinces.

The report provides recommendations for improving the protection and well-being of UASC-M, including strengthening collaboration between formal and informal child protection mechanisms. The assessment also addresses the need to ensure that the Child Protection Act is fully enforced.
