Meet Mr. Ken Legins, UNICEF Representative to Thailand

Ken Legins is currently serving as UNICEF’s Representative to Thailand, having assumed his post in January 2026. Prior to this, he served as UNICEF’s Representative in Belize, where he also supported a Caribbean-wide effort to establish a new multi-country office and advanced innovative financing for disaster risk reduction.
Previously, Ken was Deputy Representative for Programmes in Iraq (2022–2025), where he oversaw multiple humanitarian and development initiatives , such as supporting internally displaced persons and refugees, while advancing development of the country’s nascent social sector. From 2016–2022, he was Chief of Supply Chain Strengthening at UNICEF Supply Division in Copenhagen, Denmark. There, he led a team to modernise UNICEF’s supply chain, and represented UNICEF at the COVID Act Accelerator which became crucial as vaccines were delivered around the world.
Ken has over 25 years of experience in international development. He worked at UNICEF’s Headquarters as Global Advisor for HIV Policy and Evidence and also served as Chief of HIV and Adolescent Development at UNICEF China. He also worked with the World Health Organisation Regional Office for Europe on adolescent and maternal health in Ukraine, North Macedonia, and Albania during the Kosovo War.
Ken holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Sociology from Bowdoin College (1992) and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Yale University (1995). A United States national, he maintains a residence in Maine and enjoys outdoor sporting activities.
