Cyberbullying: Over half (55.3%) of children and youth up to 25 years old surveyed reported being bullied and ridiculed online. Thailand ranks second globally for cyberbullying. The manual provides strategies to cope, such as stopping interaction, blocking perpetrators, seeking help from trusted adults, reporting to authorities, and saving evidence.
Online Grooming: This involves building trust with children or youth, often with false identities, to manipulate them into inappropriate or harmful behaviors, including revealing personal information or meeting in person for abuse. 12% of children aged 9-18 surveyed reported experiencing online grooming. The manual advises stopping communication, blocking and reporting, seeking help, and keeping evidence.
Online Gambling: 43.6% of children and youth surveyed reported online gambling.
Gaming Addiction: 32.3% of children and youth surveyed reported gaming addiction.
Understanding Internet Safety & Cybersecurity: Internet Safety is about protecting personal data and information from online threats, while Cybersecurity focuses on protecting digital systems and networks from unauthorized access and attacks. Key preventative measures include data encryption, strong passwords, multi-factor authentication, and regular software updates. Good online behaviour, such as respecting others' privacy, verifying information before sharing, and avoiding copyright infringement, is also emphasised.
Legal Framework: The manual also outlines relevant laws concerning online offences, including defamation, creating fake news, intimidation, and harassment.
Support & Assistance: The manual lists various organizations and hotlines available for help, such as Childline Thailand (1387), Social Assistance Centre (1300), and the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (1191).
