Highlights

This costing study on child protection and services for children (and families) under MOU-ATD of Children in Immigration
Detention Center has compiled cost of each type of care arrangement, which are family-based care, independent living with community’s supervision, and institutional care.

This study has confirmed that family-based care in community costs less than institutional care and is more beneficial
to the child since family is a crucial part in nurturing children to reach their full potential, respond to their significant
emotional and social needs, support their identity awareness, and encourage children’s interaction with the community.
Having supporting network from community members also has positive outcomes on children’s wellbeing.
