Standalone IPV vaccines remain an essential part of immunization schedules in 125 countries, with 83 of them securing access through UNICEF. Supply security of the vaccine has increased thanks to a wider supplier base of WHO prequalified products, and a reduction in the weighted average price per dose.
Poliomyelitis (polio) is a highly infectious viral disease that largely affects children under 5 years of age. IPV is one of the safest vaccines in use. It is one of the six different vaccines to stop polio transmission and consists of inactivated (killed) poliovirus strains of all three poliovirus types.
