Rotavirus vaccine (RV) supply and demand update
An update on the life-saving vaccine against rotavirus, a deadly form of diarrhoea.
Highlights
Diarrhoeal diseases are both preventable and treatable. Yet more than 215,000 children under-five die annually from rotavirus infections. By the end of 2023, rotavirus vaccine has been introduced in 123 countries, with WHO estimating a vaccination coverage of 55 per cent. In 2023 UNICEF procured 39 million rotavirus vaccine courses on behalf of 57 countries.
This market update for rotavirus vaccines highlights information on the rotavirus vaccine demand, supply, and country introductions, along with pricing trends in the global context. Even though overall rotavirus vaccine supply from three manufacturers through UNICEF is sufficient to meet all confirmed country requirements, UNICEF seeks to accelerate the availability of vaccine presentations suitable to cover all country immunization programmes.
