Meeting Report: WHO-UNICEF Technical Consultation on ready-to-use therapeutic foods (RUTF)

Improving the availability and cost of RUTF for treating children with severe wasting and/or nutritional oedema

In 2020, the United Nations Agencies working on the prevention and treatment of wasting in children released a high-level global action plan (GAP) for child wasting.

In this plan, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHC R), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the World Health Organization (WHO) have outlined priority actions to achieve the targets set by the World Health Assembly (WHA) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to reduce the proportion of children suffering from wasting to fewer than 5 per cent by 2025 and fewer than 3 per cent by 2030.
