Iberdrola
A UNICEF partner since 2022
Iberdrola has partnered with UNICEF to promote opportunities for the empowerment, education, training and employability of young people in vulnerable situations, contributing to generating sustainable, resilient and inclusive employment
Over 270 million young people between the ages of 15 and 24 in the world do not have access to education, employment or training. To address the situation, Iberdrola has partnered with UNICEF in an innovative and social impact alliance aimed at contributing to the social and labor inclusion of young people and promoting the generation of training and employment opportunities, both in Spain and internationally.
Iberdrola’s funding of over US$3 million for three years to this collaboration aims to contribute to Generation Unlimited, a global initiative led by UNICEF that seeks to connect millions of young people around the world to training, empowerment, employment and entrepreneurship opportunities. Within this framework, the partnership focuses both on Brazil, promoting the 1 Million Opportunities (1MiO) programme, which aims to include adolescents and young people in vulnerable situations in the country's labor market by enhancing their skills, job opportunities and green jobs, and on UNICEF’s UPSHIFT innovation programme in Somalia, which provides adolescents who are victims of violence and at risk of exclusion with the right skills and training in innovation and social entrepreneurship.
Additionally, with the conviction that the social progress of young people is linked to the development of sustainable solutions and projects based on greener energies, the partnership aims to promote the commitment of young people to climate action. Iberdrola will provide didactic digital content on climate change and sustainability to UNICEF’s global learning platform, the Learning Passport, allowing access to better digital education for children and young people around the world.
In Spain, Iberdrola is part of the ‘Generation Unlimited Spain’ multi-stakeholder alliance led by UNICEF Spain and implemented with local social organisations, youth, civil society and academia to improve youth employability and reduce the vulnerability of adolescents and young people in the country, promoting public and private policies focused on skills development, training and empowerment opportunities for youth people at risk.
