Binance Charity supports UNICEF’s efforts to help children in Ukraine
GENEVA, 6 March 2022 - Binance Charity announced a 2.5 million USD equivalent crypto donation to UNICEF to support the organization’s life-saving work for children and their families in Ukraine and in hosting countries.
As the conflict escalates, it poses an immediate and growing threat to the lives and well-being of the country’s 7.5 million children. Humanitarian needs are increasing by the hour. Many children are profoundly traumatized by the violence all around them. Hundreds of thousands of people are on the move, and family members have been separated from their loved ones.
The funds donated by Binance Charity come at a crucial time, with UNICEF needing to scale up its activities in Ukraine and neighbouring countries to reach every child in need of protection.
CZ, Founder and CEO of Binance, said: “The rate at which this conflict is escalating has shocked the world. To think just over a week ago Ukraine's children were laughing, playing, attending school; and now we’re hearing of children casualties, thousands forced to flee or take shelter, it’s heartbreaking. We’re grateful for our ongoing collaboration with UNICEF, which with the support of the Binance community, provides emergency relief to help ease some of the suffering these children and their families are facing.”
At present UNICEF’s efforts for children and their families currently include:
- Providing safe water, healthcare, education, and protection.
- Prepositioning health, hygiene, and emergency education supplies as close as possible to communities near the line of contact.
- Working with municipalities to ensure that there is immediate help for children and families in need.
- Supporting mobile teams providing child protection services and psychosocial care to children traumatized by the chronic insecurity.
“Children in Ukraine are terrified, in shock and desperate for safety. We rely on the generosity and support of the global business community to help UNICEF and our partners reach those children and their families whose lives and futures hang in the balance,” said Carla Hadid Mardini, Director of UNICEF’s Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division in Geneva. “We thank Binance Charity for their quick support which will help us at this critical time,” she added.
Binance Charity has an ongoing collaboration with UNICEF via its Luxembourg Committee, having worked together to provide assistance following the Beirut Explosion and to support COVID-19 global vaccination efforts (COVAX).
