Highlights

Not all children are enrolled in early childhood education and development (ECED) centers in Nepal. In 2020-2021, the total Gross Enrolment Rate (GER) of children in ECED was 87.63 per cent, whereas the Net Enrolment Rate (NER) of children under four was 68.16 per cent.

Some municipalities have lower enrolment rates compared to others and this study sought to explore reasons for this disparity and propose possible solutions, for example, by improving the capacity of the existing ECED centers and drawing up alternative modalities for ECED centers to accommodate the needs of those children currently not enroled.
