Niassa, Mozambique – In the remote districts of Marrupa and Maua in Niassa province, families gathered to welcome the launch of the Child Grant, a social protection programme that will help more than 4,000 children get a better start in life.

Implemented by the Ministry of Labour, Gender and Social Action (MTGAS) through the National Institute of Social Action (INAS), with UNICEF support through the UN Joint Programme on Social Protection, the initiative provides monthly financial support to families with children aged 0-2 years. The grant aims to help parents afford nutritious food, prevent malnutrition, and ensure essential care during the first 1,000 days of life.

With the expansion to Niassa, the Child Grant now reaches around 62,000 children across Mozambique through the UNJP-SP.

The programme is made possible by the generous support of the Governments of Sweden, Ireland, Canada, Finland, Germany, and the UK
