JRP in Nampula Province

Following a series of attacks by non‑State armed groups (NSAG) in Nampula Province between November and December 2025, more than 107,784 people (22,202 families) were forced to flee their homes in search of safety. The sudden and large‑scale displacement placed immense pressure on host communities and heightened the risk of disease outbreaks, particularly in overcrowded sites where access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene services was limited. In response, and as part of the UN‑led Joint Response Programme (JRP) implemented in close collaboration with WFP, IOM and UNHCR, UNICEF delivered hygiene kits to 2,271 displaced families, reaching 11,355 people in the communities of Nathuco, Alua Sede and Meliva across Memba and Erati districts.

The hygiene kits containing soap for handwashing, buckets with taps and lids to ensure safe water storage, household water treatment products for disinfecting drinking water, and dignity kits to support the menstrual hygiene needs of women and adolescent girls formed a critical component of the life‑saving assistance package.

This support helped reduce public health risks, strengthen safe hygiene practices, and improve living conditions in internally displaced people (IDP) sites and in host communities receiving those displaced. Through timely action and strong inter‑agency coordination, UNICEF contributed to protecting the health and dignity of families affected by the escalating insecurity.
