Highlights
In 2022, over 475,000 additional people in development and humanitarian contexts gained access to safe water, 40% of them with durable solutions. Two whole districts in Manica and Tete, plus one ‘posto administrativo’ in Zambezia Province, were declared Open Defecation Free (ODF), 831,547 additional people gained access to basic sanitation and a total of 1,597 communities were declared ODF. In addition, 109 schools and 23 health centers were provided with water, sanitation, and waste management facilities.
On the system strengthening side, we jointly succeeded at: i) making significant progresses in the implementation of PRONASAR (Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Plan) and roll out of the Rural Sanitation Strategy; ii) identifying critical projects to reduce the climate change impacts on the WASH sector; iii) in coordination with the Ministry of Health and Education, strengthening enabling environment to improve the critical situation of WASH in healthcare facilities and schools; among others.
