Highlights
Between January and June 2023, in collaboration with WASH sector partners, over 384,000 additional people in development and humanitarian contexts gained access to safe water, 12% of them with durable solutions. More than 148,00 additional people gained access to basic sanitation in 163 communities certified Open Defecation Free. In addition, 15 schools and 20 health care facilities were provided with water, sanitation and waste management facilities.
In this Factsheet, figures on the ongoing Freddy cyclone and cholera response are also included - ongoing rehabilitation or construction of over 500 water supply infrastructures; 312,534 people already reached with water supply solutions; 46 CTCs supported with WASH infrastructures; and over 1 million people covered by cluster or case area targeted interventions in the context of cholera, among others – as well as two success stories related to this challenging nationwide emergency response.
During this period, significant progresses were also made on: i) implementation of the Rural Sanitation Strategy; ii) provincial consultations for WASH in Schools Norms and Standards; iii) support to the Government of Mozambique for its participation in the UN Water Conference and the development of commitments regarding universal access to water and sanitation; among others.
