Academy Award-winning actress, producer and humanitarian Susan Sarandon was appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 1999. Through public advocacy, campaigns and field missions, she has helped raise awareness of the challenges children face, including access to education, healthcare and child protection, while engaging governments, partners and the public to support UNICEF's mission to ensure every child can survive, learn and thrive.

In 2000, Susan traveled to India to spotlight innovative early childhood development programmes serving vulnerable communities, including children affected by HIV/AIDS.

That same year, Susan visited Tanzania, where she met with children and families affected by HIV/AIDS and witnessed firsthand the impact of UNICEF-supported counselling, education and protection programmes. She visited community centres where young people were using music, theatre and storytelling to raise awareness, reduce stigma and promote HIV prevention, underscoring the power of youth-led initiatives to create lasting change.

Born in New York City, Susan is one of the most acclaimed actresses of her generation. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for Dead Man Walking and has received Academy Award nominations for Atlantic City, Thelma & Louise, Lorenzo's Oil and The Client. Her distinguished career spans film, television and theatre.
