Evaluation of UNICEF work on acquisition of transferable skills among adolescents and young people

The evaluation of UNICEF work on the acquisition of transferable skills among adolescents and young people seeks to generate evidence on UNICEF’s performance in supporting countries to equip children, adolescents, and young people with the essential skills needed to become responsible, engaged, and productive citizens. The evaluation examines the conceptual foundations of UNICEF’s transferable skills programming, the extent to which organizational commitments to programme countries have been fulfilled, and progress toward achieving key outcomes. Its foresight approach will encourage UNICEF to reflect and assess whether the organization is well-positioned to serve current and evolving skills needs in an era of digital transformation, climate change, and shifting labour markets, with a system-level approach. By distilling UNICEF’s strong practices and processes, comparative advantages and opportunities across diverse country typologies, the evaluation aims to inform adaptive programming and policy decisions that strengthen future efforts to advance skills development and learning opportunities for all young people.

The evaluation is expected to be completed in October 2026.
