Innovation plays a central role in UNICEF’s efforts to deliver results for children in increasingly complex and rapidly changing contexts. It has been positioned as a change strategy intended to help the organization test new approaches, strengthen systems, and accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.

To assess how well innovation is supporting UNICEF’s mandate and future readiness, the UNICEF Evaluation Office conducted an independent evaluation of innovation in UNICEF. The evaluation examined the clarity of strategic direction, governance and leadership arrangements, organizational positioning, and pathways to scale, as well as how innovation is embedded in programme delivery and partnerships across the organization. The findings are intended to inform implementation of the new Strategic Plan and ongoing organizational reforms.
