About

On 17 May 2026, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.

Children are disproportionately affected by Ebola outbreaks — not only through direct infection, but through the disruption of essential health, nutrition, education, and child protection services.

‘Ebola Virus Disease (EVD): UNICEF Emergency Response and Preparedness’ outlines the situation as of 4 June 2026, and provides details of UNICEF’s response.
