The BMW Group and UNICEF partnership “BRIDGE. Educating young people for tomorrow, today” will help deliver training in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) to the next generation in parts of Africa, Asia, and Central and South America, by supporting them in acquiring the essential skills to thrive in the working world of the future. 
The partnership will support UNICEF’s global aim to reach more than 10 million children and young people through education, contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
 

A holistic approach to the STEM skills gap
STEM-related jobs are the engine of global economic growth, yet millions of these jobs are projected to go unfilled in the future, due to a gap in skills. The problem is more acute in developing countries, and much more prevalent among girls and women. UNICEF aims to lay a strong foundation through directly supporting STEM education for girls and boys to thrive in our rapidly changing and dynamic global economy. 

Scaling up: Collaboration expands to three more continents
Following the launch of the collaboration between the BMW Group and UNICEF in South Africa in 2023, the partnership will expand and scale up to Brazil, India, Mexico and Thailand. UNICEF and BMW aim to collaborate in bringing a holistic approach to STEM education to schools from now through 2030. From providing laboratory equipment to developing a customized teacher training curriculum, and from mentorship to job-shadowing, the programmes supported by this partnership will improve learning inputs and support young people to succeed in the future world of work. 

A strong bond for additional help for children in current crisis situations
In addition, in 2024, through their global network of affiliates and with the involvement of stakeholders, the BMW Group will also join forces to raise funds to support the UNICEF emergency response, with a focus on education, making sure children can continue learning in safe environments during these difficult situations – especially girls, children with disabilities, internally displaced children, refugees and migrants. UNICEF supports children to develop skills to cope with trauma and supplies them with learning spaces that are safe, child-friendly and equipped with water and sanitation facilities.
