Children need the care of adults to live. Children from 0 to 5 years old do not yet have enough autonomy to drive a car, work their own money, cook the food they need to eat, wash clothes that cover them and protect them from the weather or even take care of their own hygiene. Until they grow up and develop enough physical and intellectual capacities to take care of themselves, they are 100% dependent on the adults around them.

A vaccinated child, he grows strong and healthy, being able to have a happy childhood, playing close to other children. Which unfortunately does not happen for some children who have their health neglected by the adults who should take care of them and protect them, not only from the visible dangers around them, but from the invisible ones as well, such as polio, which unfortunately has already destroyed the future of many children in the past, some never reached 10 years of life, and those who exceeded this age without having taken the vaccine, today are already adults who live the irreversible sequelae caused by polio.

On August 21, 22, 23, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) carried out the National Polio vaccination campaign and vitamin A supplementation, throughout the national territory, with the aim of interrupting the circulation of poliovirus and strengthening the immunity of children under five years of age. With the support of UNICEF, WHO, Gavi and with great support from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid & Relief Centre – Ksrelief. 

According to Jornal de Angola on August 23, one million and one hundred children were vaccinated during the first day of the 3rd Round of the National Vaccination Campaign against Poliomyelitis, which expected, until the last day of the campaign, to reach the goal of 9,249,345 minors across the country, informed the National Coordinator of the Extended Vaccination Program (PAV). 

Vaccination is carried out through the door-to-door strategy, with duly identified teams visiting communities, neighborhoods and other areas of intervention. Fixed posts and advanced vaccination points are always available to ensure that no child is left without receiving vaccine doses.

MINSA appeals to parents and guardians to always receive vaccination teams and present all children under five years of age, contributing to high vaccination coverage and the interruption of poliovirus circulation in the country.

The institution also requests the support of local authorities, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organizations, health professionals, teachers and the media in mobilizing communities.
