About

Towards Effective Laws: An Analytical Framework and Compendium of Good Practices on Laws and Policies to Address Child Marriage draws on lived experiences, stakeholder perspectives, lessons learned and examples of progressive legal reforms from across the globe to identify promising approaches to law and policy design and implementation.

The report provides an analytical framework and practical examples to support efforts to strengthen legal and policy responses to child marriage. It advocates for nuanced, comprehensive and rights-based approaches that balance the protection of children with recognition of adolescents’ evolving capacities. Intended for lawmakers, legislative drafters and government institutions, particularly those responsible for gender equality, justice, social welfare and child protection, the compendium also serves as a resource for UN agencies, civil society organizations, advocates, donors and other stakeholders working to advance legislative and policy reform and accelerate progress towards ending child marriage.
