Highlights
The report highlights that Thailand is highly vulnerable to the global climate crisis, facing severe consequences for its children and young people. It explores the motivations behind youth climate activism, the systemic barriers limiting their participation, and proposes concrete mechanisms to strengthen youth engagement in climate governance.
Based on extensive research, including a mapping of over 110 youth-led across Thailand, key informant interviews with government representatives, and focus group discussions with young people, the study reveals that while Thai youth are actively involved in grassroots movements and advocacy, their ability to influence formal decision-making is often constrained by a weak connection between national policy and youth-led initiatives, as well as by structural barriers like limited access to funding, resources, and platforms.
The report identifies critical issues such as the marginalization of rural and indigenous youth, safety concerns for activists, and the misalignment between youth-led impact measurement and institutional monitoring and evaluation systems.
