Understanding your feelings

Our mental health is always changing. We can all feel fine one day and overwhelmed the next. And gender does not define how you should feel or express your feelings. Boys can cry when they feel sad and be emotionally vulnerable. Similarly, girls can be confident and empowered in supporting others.

Many things throughout the day can affect our emotions and how we think and act. That is why the ability to cope with our feelings effectively is very important. It can help us adapt to change, build better relationships and improve our mental health. Recognizing our feelings is the first step towards understanding ourselves and learning how to cope. The way we interpret our emotions can have an impact on our behaviour and how well we cope with and enjoy life. Being aware of our emotions can help us talk about feelings more clearly, avoid or resolve conflicts better and manage difficult feelings more easily.

Some people are naturally more in touch with their emotions than others, but the good news is everyone can be in touch with their emotions. It just comes with practice!

To get you started, we will introduce you to different emotions, and useful tips on how to cope. There is no one-size-fits-all solution but over time you will get better at knowing what you are feeling and what works best for you.
