Interagency Emergency Health Kits (IEHK): information note

Medicines and medical equipment to meet the initial primary healthcare needs of a population of 10,000 people for three months

About

This information note provides an update on the  Interagency Emergency Health Kit (IEHK) 2024 packed by UNICEF, which contains medicines, medical devices, and equipment for a population of 10,000 people for a three-months period. It highlights the updates of this new version of the kit, and provides information on the kit’s demand and supply, packaging, labelling, pricing and order considerations.

The IEHK is a vital pre-packed kit for rapid emergency health response in crisis settings. UNICEF and partners released the new IEHK in 2024, incorporating updates to the products included in the kit based on newer treatments and updated treatment guidelines, to ensure that its content fits the changing needs and requirements of various emergency situations.

The kit is divided into basic and supplementary modules, with each module further subdivided into units. The structure of the IEHK 2024 was revised based on feedback and logistic considerations. This latest version replaces IEHK 2017 and underscores UNICEF’s commitment to delivering timely, life-saving health support in humanitarian contexts.
