Nord Anglia Education
A UNICEF corporate partner since 2017
The Nord Anglia Education and UNICEF partnership supports young people in becoming the next generation of change-makers and accelerates progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Since 2017, Nord Anglia Education has been supporting UNICEF in increasing the understanding and implementation of the SDGs and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. The global partnership aims to embed social advocacy and global citizenship in all aspects of teaching and learning at Nord Anglia’s schools by providing unique platforms to young people.
In 2024, Nord Anglia Education and UNICEF launched the second phase of the partnership to support students in becoming active citizens and working alongside their local communities to address social issues and contribute to UNICEF’s wider initiatives to protect children around the world, helping to create the next generation of change-makers.
UNICEF’s 2023 report on the Progress on Children’s Well-being: Centring child rights in the 2030 Agenda predicted that by 2030, only 25 per cent of children will live in countries where 70 per cent of the child-related SDG targets will have been met. This means that millions of children could still face poverty, inequality and social exclusion, making UNICEF’s work even more crucial in providing opportunities for the most vulnerable children to realize their aspirations.
In the first phase of the partnership, Nord Anglia Education contributed to producing advocacy resources on the 2030 Agenda, including the annual SDG Support Package that features key policy questions for governments to achieve the 17 SDGs and accelerate progress on five cross-cutting issues. In addition, Nord Anglia contributed to UNICEF’s global emergency response, including for the global COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine. These donations supported UNICEF in bringing life-saving supplies such as water purification tablets for families to access safe drinking water and first-aid kits to respond to medical needs.
Reflecting on the past seven years of working with UNICEF, Leslie Williams, Senior Programme Lead for Social Impact and Charitable Giving at Nord Anglia Education, said: “I am delighted that we are continuing our global partnership with UNICEF that started in 2017. The work we do together is a cornerstone of Nord Anglia’s educational offer and an incredibly powerful tool in teaching students agency, global mindedness and compassion. More than ever, there is a collective responsibility to address global social issues, and in partnership with UNICEF, our socially aware education is one of the ways we try to achieve this at Nord Anglia. Over the past seven years, we have had thousands of our students from around the world engage in this programme, learning the real meaning of being an agent of change, equipped to be current and future leaders.”
In the coming years, the partnership will aim to strengthen Nord Anglia and UNICEF’s advocacy for child rights and education and drive support towards achieving the SDGs for every child at United Nations and intergovernmental fora. Together, Nord Anglia Education and UNICEF will continue to work hand in hand to advocate the SDGs and foster the next generation of change-makers.
