Mozambique approves national action plan with and for children in street situations
The Ministry of Labour, Gender and Social Action approved the National Action Plan with and for Children in Street Situations during its Conselho Consultivo.
Maputo, Mozambique - On 8 July 2026, the Ministry of Labour, Gender and Social Action approved the National Action Plan with and for Children in Street Situations during its Conselho Consultivo, marking an important milestone for child participation and inclusive policymaking in Mozambique.
Led by the Ministry through a multisectoral working group, the Action Plan was developed through a meaningful participatory process. Children and adolescents were actively involved, from the initial assessment of needs to the identification of priorities, actions and proposed solutions.
Following the presentation of the Plan by the National Director for Children and its endorsement by the Conselho Técnico on 7 July, two child representatives were invited to present it directly to the Ministry and members of the Conselho Consultivo. This important exception to protocol ensured that children’s voices and perspectives remained central to the decision-making process.
The approval of this gender-transformative Action Plan represents a critical step towards establishing a coordinated, Government-led and multisectoral national response with and for children in street situations. Grounded in children’s lived realities, priorities and aspirations, the Plan promotes community-based, integrated and sustainable solutions to reach some of the country’s most vulnerable and often overlooked children.
