Palma, Cabo Delgado - "My daughter is now well fed due to the cooking sessions I have been taking part in, where I learned how to prepare healthy porridge without taking away the nutritional value," said Judite Alberto, 18 years old, in the community of 16 de Junho, in Palma District, in Cabo Delgado province.
Judite is a young mother of a 9-month-old baby, Anastacia Paulo, who was diagnosed with malnutrition. It all started when Judite noticed that Anastacia had persistent fevers, and after consultation with the community health worker (CHW) in her community, Judite sought help at the nearest health facility. After a medical assessment, it was revealed that little Anastacia was malnourished, a delicate situation that required immediate intervention.
Judite, determined to reverse her daughter's situation, embarked on a journey of active participation in the activities offered by her community, such as cooking sessions using local ingredients. During these sessions, she gained valuable knowledge about nutritional care, including the preparation of peanut-fortified porridge, under the guidance of the CHW.
Today, little Anastacia is showing significant improvements. "I'm grateful for the support I received in these sessions, now I can understand how to properly take care for my daughter, and I have the necessary tools to support her ongoing recovery," said Judite.
The Nutrition Intervention Package (PIN) and the Treatment of Acute Malnutrition at the Community level (TDC) is strengthening access to primary health care in rural communities like Judite’s community of 16 de Junho, strengthening the access to primary health care and providing essential health and nutrition support that ensures a healthy start for children. This programme is implemented with the generous support of the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO).
