WASH Acts 2024:

1. WASH Acts 2024 compilation

A compilation of the accessible quarterly bilingual in English and Bahasa Indonesia newsletters, highlighting UNICEF's efforts in advancing universal access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene in Indonesia during 2024.

2. WASH Acts Vol. 17 (October-December 2024)

The Government of Indonesia continues to make progress on the safe sanitation agenda. Open defecation practices have significantly reduced from 4.2% to 3.2% in 2024, while safely managed sanitation access shows limited progress (from 10.2% to 10.25%) in 2024. This limited access, however, poses serious public health and environmental risks. WASH Acts vol. 17 highlights UNICEF’s collaboration with the government to accelerate climate resilient and inclusive sanitation, through high-level advocacy, strengthening policies, and enhancing public awareness.

3. WASH Acts Vol. 16 (July-September 2024)

Indonesia has made signicant progress in enabling access to improved sanitation and water, yet access to safely managed water and sanitation remains low at 11.8% and 10.2%, respectively. In Indonesia, youth often lack opportunities to be part of the decision-making and implementation process in the WASH sector. WASH Acts vol. 16 highlights UNICEF’s efforts on youth engagement in the WASH sector, in addition to our broader support to the government’s WASH agenda.

4. WASH Acts Vol. 15 (April-June 2024)

Safe drinking water and sanitation provision remain priorities for the Government of Indonesia. However, challenges like insuficient funding, inadequate capacities, and climate issues hinder the effort. WASH Acts vol. 15 highlights UNICEF’s support to the government in accelerating access to safe WASH through high-level advocacy, such as World Water Forum 2024, the launch of the Technocratic Plan of Drinking Water and Sanitation Roadmaps, and the broader WASH agenda.

5. WASH Acts Vol. 14 (January-March 2024)

Despite increased coverage of improved drinking water in Indonesia to 91.72%, challenges remain for 8.3% household with no access to improved water. Collaboration among stakeholders must be enhanced for successful delivery WASH services for all. WASH Acts vol. 14 highlights UNICEF’s support to advance drinking water quality agenda, strengthen WASH resilience to climate change, and contribute to the broader WASH agenda including WASH in school and WASH in health care facilities, through high-level advocacy, capacity building, and leveraged engagement with youth, leaving no one behind.
