WASH Acts 2022:
WASH Acts Vol. 9 (Oct-Dec 2022)
Handwashing with soap is recognized as one of the most cost-effective interventions to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with enteric and respiratory infections. However, in Indonesia, 50% of people above 10 years old do not wash their hands with soap at critical times. The Government of Indonesia (GOI) is promoting handwashing with soap as part of the national sanitation program. WASH Acts vol. 9 highlights UNICEF’s efforts in partnerships with the government and developing partners in advancing the hand hygiene and sanitation agenda.
WASH Acts Vol. 8 (July-Sept 2022)
The lack of safe WASH facilities at home, school, health care facilities, and other settings exposes women and adolescent girls to health issues and social discrimination disproportionally, especially during menstruation. At school, adolescent girls face additional burden because of the prevalent taboo around menstruation that prevents adolescent girls from receiving education. WASH Acts vol. 8 highlights UNICEF efforts in collaboration with the government and developing partners to empower adolescent girls and women to reach their full potential and achieve greater gender equality.
WASH Acts Vol. 7 (April-June 2022)
Indonesia has made substantial progress in increasing access to improved drinking water, improved sanitation, and basic hygiene services, yet progress in access to safely managed WASH service remains low. Practical actions that “build forward better” need to be implemented to accelerate higher levels of WASH services for all. The WASH Acts vol. 7 highlights UNICEF efforts to accelerate the provision of safely managed WASH services in Indonesia including support to the successful hosting of the Sanitation & Water for All – Sector Ministers’ meeting in Jakarta and strengthening capacities of sector practitioners to better integrate humanitarian preparedness and response into development plans and policies.
